I agree that it is essentially a negative ploy, but it's a consequence of none of the bowlers (and probably the keeper too) being in any way reliable batsmen. Plus, they would bat at seven, with the keeper at eight.
As for the 'Rymp, I defy anyone to try and convince me that he is not a better option than Giles as either a batsman, bowler or in the field.

Have to agree about Dalrymple.
Plus he's posh, which goes a long way.

Clarke is a useless bowler, batter and fielder why would he even be considered? As bad as Collingwoods bowling is, at least he has some command of where the ball pitches.
